Merry Christmas on the Nullarbour (18 December 2004)

We've We've now ridden 13,000 km and been on the road for more than 8 months, and are two thirds of the way around our beautiful continent. Our journey has taken us up the east coast from Sydney to Cairns, across the centre from Townsville to Alice, up the middle to Darwin, along the top to Broome and down around the west coast to turn the corner at Cape Leeuwin. We've reached Esperance and are on the way back east along the bottom of the map.

The only problem is that the south western corner of WA is so beautiful we have trouble leaving each place we visit… so we're running just a little late for our Nullarbour crossing. Check our diary and you'll see why we like it so much here.

We've visited endless white beaches, spectacular coastlines, forests of giant trees and paddocks of golden wheat. The people who live here are even more remarkable and we've enjoyed overwhelming hospitality from new friends in all situations from farms to town houses. Thank you so much.

We'll be spending Christmas somewhere in the desert, and probably reach Eucla on New Years Day. It will be very, very hot so we plan to shelter under our credit card and hide in air conditioned roadhouses at much as we can… and just sprint the rest of the way. One thing for sure is that this Christmas will be our most memorable ever, so we'll understand if you're jealous.

Merry Christmas and have a wonderful New Year

Ross & Ann
