  heroes' journeys
Ross at the John Flynn Centre in Cloncurry, where Flynn founded the Royal Flying Doctor Service against huge odds

A hero is person of strength and courage who overcomes seemingly insurmountable odds to achieve extraordinary outcomes. In Greek mythology, heroes often complete a perilous journey, challenging them physically and emotionally, in quest of a great prize - like Jason and the Argonauts returning with the golden fleece.

People who have faced death and overcome disability to take control of their lives are heroes too (even although they say they're just doing what they need to survive). It's a huge physical and mental challenge to triumph over the everyday things we used to take for granted. And it takes incredible strength and courage to keep going.

You also need a great team to do it with you. It's not easy going through this without a loved one. And we couldn't do it without the support of the fantastic doctors, nurses and therapists who not only save lives but make them worth living. Good rowing Argonauts!
